New stars have been added to the collection after I found some pretty French General fabric from the Rural Jardin range.
After stopping by another fabric shop, I added some fabrics from the Minick & Simpson range - Clermont Farms, as well as a Michele Hill blue print from her range - Adelaide.
Oddly enough, three of the stores I visited told me they weren't stocking Moda fabrics any more. When asked why, they said everyone buys Moda online. Do they?
I'll admit to buying pre-cuts on line but rarely yardage and even though our dollar is so strong, I'm trying to stay loyal to local quilt shops. I like to see the fabrics and enjoy the personal, friendly service.
What a shame if we were to lose our quilt shops altogether. Support your local store - today.

In some ways I'm thankful that none of my local quilt shops stock the fabrics I like, I therefore have no guilt about buying online!

Oh no! I didn't intend to make anyone feel guilty. Some people are many miles from a fabric shop and online is their only avenue to purchase. Ann.
ReplyDeleteI have rarely bought fabric online and NEVER Moda. Only when i couldn't find a specific fabric in the stores. I recently have thought about doing so if I can get better prices, but doubt if it would be my favorite option. I like to see it in person!
ReplyDeleteI've been known to drive an hour to a shop that DOES stock the Moda fabrics I want rather than order online! I think maybe your shop owners have been misinformed? Then again, there are a lot of bloggers talking about ordering online...makes me wonder what percentage of purcahses those make up?

When I'm on a mission to collect certain colors of fabrics I always hit my local shops first then go on line. I'm afraid most of my purchases wouldn't keep a shop open as I tend to buy small pieces. Now if I could convince them to carry good backing and background fabrics I would shop for bigger chunks.

I only shop online for fabric if I have exhausted all the local quilt shop avenues, I'd hate to see the quilt shop go the way of local bookstores! Love the blocks and glad to see you are back!

ReplyDeleteI work at a small quilt shop and when the owner came back from spring market she told me that all the fabric prices went uo quite a bit and Moda went up the most. That might be why some shops aren't buying Moda. (They do have great fabric).
Your star blocks are beautiful and I love the fabrics you used! I prefer to buy fabric I can touch and see the actual color but I have bought some online when I can't find what I want in the shops.
ReplyDeleteYour star blocks are really pretty. I haven't done much quilting lately (mainly for lack of funds) but my shops do carry fabrics I love. I suppose if I really couldn't find what I wanted I would look online, however, I still like to look at the real thing. Connie204

ReplyDeleteOooh, I love your diamonds - you do such amazing work! I hear you re the supporting local shops but have to admit, guiltily, I am a big offender. I buy most of my stuff online, although yardage and notions I usually buy online from local shops. I just find that in the spare couple of hours I have on the weekend, I'd rather be sewing not driving hours to a quilt shop - there's only 1 quilt shop within half an hour (apart from a Spotlight) and with a smaller range than I can compare online I usually only go there when I am out of batting. I also find it easier to browse and compare things online. And every so often, I confess I have a big splurge at Fat Quarter Shop (US based) especially for Moda pre-cuts. They just have a bigger range than Australian shops can afford to have, and they are cheaper. But I guess if more people shopped locally then the local shops would be able to stock bigger ranges and also have more competitive pricing.
