milked

Ta-da! Here is it is - at long last.
(did I milk this one for all it's worth)

Used some of the leftover fabrics for the backing.
Seemed a shame not to use them.

Seriously, how cute are those owls?!

I love the effect of the quilting on this one.
Machine quilted on a Janome QC6260 using Stitch No. 10, Width 4.0, Length 3.5,  auto tension and Gutermann Cotton Quilting thread.
Just need to add the label and it's ready for gifting.

stripes

I've earned mine I hope!

I chose the striped fabric from the range for the binding on this quilt. I would liked to have used that multi-coloured spot for the backing fabric but there was a budget for this project.

Alternatives had to be found and hopefully what I've chosen will be okay.

Getting closer now.

Found this little gem on the internet. Made me smile.

zigzag

Not even a wonky walking foot and four broken needles were going to stop me from quilting this.

Although it did slow me down a wee bit. I'm not quite getting the honeycomb effect I was hoping for but I am loving the zigzag quilting and the effect it creates.

Especially as it reflects the zigzag prints used in the quilt.

honeycomb

You were expecting the sweet stuff now, weren't you?

After seeing this post by crazymomquilts I decided that I wanted to see if I could produce a similar stitch on my Janome QC6260.

Amanda Jean calls it honeycomb quilting.

Well I played around a bit and discovered that I can make this stitch so I plan to use it for quilting the owl baby quilt.

The QC6260 has quite a few fancy stitches which I'm never likely to use. Pity it doesn't have alphabets.

Newer sewing machines have a wavy stitch as standard these days but I can't see myself buying a new machine any time soon.

deviation

I had a plan. A good plan.

It would have worked out well except that I deviated.

From the plan. The good plan.

Still, it will be worth it.

You can wait a wee bit longer can't you?
