unimpressive

These half square triangles are looking about as impressive as the weather in Sydney the last few days. Drab. Dreary.

Believe it or not - that fabric is blue.

I'm using the Magic 8 method to create some HSTs to finish off another UFO. The method works well although  - Doubting Thomas that I am - I added an extra inch just to be sure and trimmed them back to the size I needed.

There is a nifty ruler designed for that purpose - Eleanor Burns' Quilt in a Day Square Up Ruler.  I haven't time to order one from Punch with Judy so I'm improvising.

After reading Carrie Nelson's post on the Modafabrics blog I'm also starching a lot more.

Carrie has recently written a series of articles on sizing, thread, tools and the like. All stuff you know but doesn't hurt to refresh.

Best wishes for yours, however you choose to mark the occasion.

  1. At first, they do look drab, but upon enlarging the photo, I can see what lovely fabric it is and I'm sure once they are put together it will be a gorgeous quilt! Everything looks better when quilted and bound.

  2. I like the soft blue look of the fabric you're using and having another UFO FINISHED can never be under-rated!
I'm looking forward to seeing the finished quilt. Things here will be quiet with some stitching this Easter Sunday.

    1. You're right Gail - working towards a UFO finish, especially this one, is long overdue.

  3. Thanks for the link to the Magic 8 HS tutorial. Seems like I'd seen that before, but I need to be trying that out with my Civil War scraps --- after I get those wild flowers together! I'm taking it easy after church today; will probably check out the rest of those links. Thanks; and Happy Easter to you. ---"Love"

    1. It's right up there with your clever trick for Flying Geese blocks.

  4. I hope you enjoyed taking it easy on Easter :) I'm looking forward to seeing what all the HST are for. I have some HST work coming up, so I'll have to check out that link. Thanks for the links to Carrie's posts as well. As you said, it doesn't hurt to take a refresher once in a while!

    1. I sure did Joanne! This is the boring part - cutting and stitching lots of the same block but hopefully the end is worth the effort.

    1. Thanks Pam - not very impressive I must admit but these blocks are the support act of the quilt.

  6. There is not much contrast there yet, but I'll be watching to see what you do with the HST's. The blue fabric is so pretty when you look at it up close. Happy Easter!

    1. Thanks Marsha - this is the not very exciting part of this project but it must be done.
